The water park. The strange act of jumping into public bodies of water that may or may not have slides, rides and concessions has been going since the 1950s.

Teens diving into wave pool is a summertime past time…

The water park, or waterpark (technically both are correct), originally came into being in the 1970s. Though the forebearers of them came about in the 1930s through the early invention of waterslides. Individual pools had singuar rides and slides dating to the 1940s. However, the first park officially opened its doors in 1960. Why 1977 for the origin date of the water park? Mostly it’s because our current concept of the water park was started when George Millay opened Wet ‘n Wild in Orlando that year. That said, A man named Bob Byer’s opened a park called Lake Dolores in Newberry Springs, CA in 1962. His park was far more regional in nature. Millay’s park is considered the father park because it had immediate national appeal.

I expected the wave to take the kids out, I did NOT think it would take out the cameraman TOO!
