Thailand: Police Form Special Team to Fight Monkey Gangs

The tourist town of Lopburi in Thailand is suffering from violence caused by monkeys. The aggressive primates are part of different gangs who had been clashing with each other and terrorising residents of the city for years. The Lopburi Police have now set up a monkey suppression unit, which began its operations on March 25. The police team has been tasked with capturing the macaque monkeys that cause trouble for residents. Meanwhile, the country's Natural Resources and Environment Ministry has agreed to compensate people attacked by the animals amid a surge in such incidents, including three major cases in March.
