It is not a pleasant thing to think about, but then again, who would even want to consider their bike getting stolen? Especially if it is your only means of transport, you take significant measures to make sure you find your vehicle where you leave it. But it takes someone pretty resourceful to come across a bike that is parked and chained to a post, apply all the necessary tools to be able to lift the bike away!

Amanda Needham had that exact thing happen to her some while back. Her $200 bike was stolen in Brooklyn and when she discovered the loss, she wasn’t interested in pleading for restoration. Instead, she took a huge 8-by-3-foot piece of cardboard and hung it outside her landlord’s house gate, with the following message to the bike thief:

“To the person who stole my bicycle – I hope you need it more than I do. It was $ 200 used, and I need it to go to work. I can’t afford another one. Next time, steal a hipster’s Peugeot. Or not steal! P.S. Bring it back”!

It was just a week after that two men appeared at her front door, one of them carrying a mountain bike designed for Amanda. The man was happy to give her his spare, since the same thing happened to him. Although an insanely kind gesture, the bike was the wrong size for Amanda.

Amanda’s sign was brought to the attention of British antique leader Robert Young, who offered $200 for it, saying: “I love the sign, there was something raw about it so much passion. I loved the graphics, the way the ‘you’ is all squashed up. No one writes by hand anymore. The sign was wonderful document”.

In the end, Amanda received a donated bike. But she didn’t waste time, naming it “Karmacycle”.
