Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, also known as Our Lady of Fatima, is a title given to the Virgin Mary in the Catholic tradition. The designation "of the Rosary" is associated with her apparitions in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917. These apparitions are among the most well-known and widely recognized in modern Catholicism.

The story of Fatima begins on May 13, 1917, when three shepherd children—Lucia dos Santos and her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto—reported seeing an apparition of a lady "brighter than the sun" while they were tending their sheep. The lady is said to have appeared to them on the 13th of each month from May to October of that year.

During these apparitions, the Lady reportedly conveyed messages to the children, including calls for prayer, repentance, and the importance of devotion to the Rosary. She also revealed three secrets to them, which were eventually disclosed by Lucia, the only one of the three who lived to adulthood. The secrets included visions of hell, the rise and fall of communism, and an assassination attempt on a Pope.

The most well-known aspect of the Fatima apparitions is the Miracle of the Sun, which allegedly occurred on October 13, 1917, in front of a crowd of tens of thousands of people. Witnesses reported seeing the sun dance, change colors, and even appear to fall towards the Earth. This event was seen as a confirmation of the authenticity of the apparitions by many believers.

In 1930, the Catholic Church officially recognized the events at Fatima as worthy of belief, and devotion to Our Lady of Fatima has since spread worldwide. The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Fatima has become a major pilgrimage site, attracting millions of visitors each year.

Our Lady of Fatima is often depicted in religious art as a serene woman wearing a white veil and robes, holding a rosary. She is venerated by Catholics as a powerful intercessor and a symbol of hope and peace. The messages conveyed at Fatima continue to be relevant to many Catholics, emphasizing the importance of prayer, repentance, and devotion to Mary.
