Bridge experts address protections after collapse

Experts are addressing key questions raised after the Francis Scott Key Bridge was struck by a cargo ship and destroyed. One of the topics discussed: bridge protections that could prevent a ship from colliding. When the Dali slammed into the Key Bridge, it took out one of the bridge piers, causing the collapse. Some bridges across the U.S. have fenders, or protective barriers, surrounding the piers to keep boats and ships away
