The right to free speech applies even when the speech is offensive to you, and true First Amendment defenders will protect the rights of those who don't agree with them – even if that means defending both conservative judges and drag shows. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression has written defenses of a range of cases, including conservative Judge Stuart Kyle Duncan whose Stanford event was disrupted by protestors, an art history instructor who lost his job after showing a medieval depiction of Muhammad, and a Texas college that canceled a charity drag show.
"FIRE will be there advocating for our clients and for the First Amendment freedoms of every public university student — no matter how they express themself."
Greg Lukianoff – president of FIRE – says their mission is to "defend and sustain the individual rights of all Americans to free speech and free thought." Greg is an attorney and NYT bestselling author. He is the author of Unlearning Liberty: Campus Censorship and the End of American Debate, Freedom From Speech, and FIRE’s Guide to Free Speech on Campus. He co-authored The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure with Jonathan Haidt.
