How to Meditate ? | Sadghuru | Isha Foundation | Save Soil|
Meditation is a practice that involves training your mind to focus and redirect your thoughts. It's often used to increase awareness, achieve mental clarity, reduce stress, and promote relaxation. While meditation is often associated with spiritual or religious traditions, it can also be practiced as a secular activity for its numerous mental and physical health benefits.
Find a comfortable position: Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. You can sit on a cushion or chair with your back straight but relaxed. If you're lying down, make sure your body is fully supported.
Close your eyes (or soften your gaze): Close your eyes gently or if you prefer to keep them open, you can soften your gaze and focus on a spot in front of you.
Relax your body: Take a few deep breaths and allow your body to relax. Start from the top of your head and slowly move down to your toes, consciously releasing any tension you might be holding onto.
Focus on your breath: Bring your attention to your breath. Notice the sensation of the breath as it enters and leaves your body. You can focus on the rise and fall of your chest, the movement of your abdomen, or the feeling of air passing through your nostrils.
Stay present: As you continue to breathe, thoughts may arise. This is normal. Instead of getting caught up in your thoughts, gently bring your focus back to your breath each time you notice your mind wandering. You can use the breath as an anchor to keep you rooted in the present moment.
