The Lathrop Police Department released body camera footage and 911 calls on Saturday from a shooting involving officers that sent a domestic violence suspect to the hospital in January.

An edited video begins with officers responding to a domestic violence call on Shadywood Avenue.

The suspect, 40-year-old Juan Valdez, was seen taking off in a Nissan Sedan after being approached by officers. Multiple police vehicles followed Valdez.

At one point, Valdez stops and talks to police while refusing to exit the vehicle.

Valdez took off again, driving on the wrong side of the road. Police tried hitting his vehicle multiple times in an attempt to stop him.

Police proceeded to chase Valdez onto Interstate 5 until the tire on his sedan popped. Valdez got out of the vehicle and attempted to carjack someone else on the highway, even hanging on to the window as the driver accelerated.

After the car came to a stop, Lathrop police officers approached Valdez. You can hear an officer saying, "You're going to get shot."

Two gunshots were fired at Valdez, and he was detained.

Valdez was taken to the hospital before being booked into San Joaquin County Jail.

He is facing charges of carjacking, false imprisonment and resisting arrest.
