Damning conclusions delivered on the Post Office case by Forensic Accountants retained by an accused subpostmaster in 2004 detail missing transaction data as a substantial impediment to identifying a perpetrator, a victim or even that a crime has taken place.

The shocking conclusions could still be made from the evidence available and, whilst they do caveat that without the data it is impossible to come to a definitive conclusion, it is clear the direction of travel points towards no case to answer.

So why did this Post Office prosecution case go to trial in the first place?
