Fujitsu used SUBPOSTMASTERS logins to 'fix' the ailing Horizon system in the face of a barrage of bugs that was plaguing the beleaguered system unknown to subpostmasters at the time.

The destruction of the audit trail in Horizon would no doubt have led to the collapse of any prosecutions based upon Horizon data as the integrity of the system had been fatally undermined with the attempts to patch the system and hide errors from subpostmasters who were desperately trying to understand what was happening.
