The Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, is on the brink of resolving the longstanding securities fraud charges that have shadowed his tenure as the state’s top legal officer.

Sources familiar with the matter have informed the American-Statesman that Paxton is close to reaching a special agreement with prosecutors.

According to the draft agreement, prosecutors would drop the felony charges against Paxton upon successful completion of the terms outlined in the deal.

Three sources familiar with the negotiations revealed that these terms may entail various obligations, including community service, participation in advanced legal education courses, and a substantial restitution, among other potential penalties.

Sources suggested that the restitution amount could range between $300,000 and $400,000, the Austin American Statesman reported.
