Angel and the Badman by James Edward Grant

Notorious gunman Quirt Evans is inured and on the run. He shows up at a farm owned by Thomas Worth and his family where he collapses. The Quaker family ignores the town doctor's advice to get rid of Quirt but they compassionately tend to the delirious man. Penny Worth, Thomas's young daughter, becomes intrigued by the gunslingers delirious ravings of past loves. When Evans regains consciousness, Penny explains to him about the Quaker credo of a non-violence way of life. Several weeks later, two desperadoes, Laredo Stevens and Hondo Jeffries, ride into town looking for Quirt. Penny's younger brother, Johnny, rushes home to inform Evans of his visitors and Quirt prepares to flee. Penny, smitten with Evans, offers to run off with him. Upon hearing the sound of approaching horses, Evans grabs his revolver and, to his horror, discovers that it has been emptied. His life is now in serious danger.
