The Mickey Mouse Theater of the Air was a 1938 musical-variety radio series for children, sponsored by Pepsodent and heard on NBC on Sunday afternoons, featuring Mickey Mouse and other characters from Walt Disney's cartoons and comic strips. The program was created to promote the February 1938 release of Disney's first animated feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

King Neptune first appeared in the 1932 Silly Symphony of the same name. (The second cartoon to be made in Technicolor.) The character was used a few more times in further Silly Symphony and Mickey Mouse cartoons as well as merchandising such as books and comics. Contemporary audiences at the time would have been familiar with his connection to the Walt Disney cast of characters.
