E.T. The Extra Terrestrial (Atari 2600) -- Game Manuals Were Cool

In the old days, video games came with paper manuals, and--in many cases—these manuals were full of cool art, bonkers worldbuilding, game tips, and extra creative details.

Far from the bum rap it gets in pop culture, E.T. is a pretty good Atari 2600 game. It has a lot of innovative game mechanics for its time, and the gameplay is impressively complicated.
But, a complicated game in the era of Centipede and Space Invaders meant that it could be obtuse and confusing for a lot of players.
Thankfully, the manual explained everything—and much of it is written from the point of view of the titular character (E.T. himself, who’s real name is apparently Zrek). Enjoy!
