"I'm from a different space and time." Vertical has debuted an official trailer for an indie sci-fi thriller film titled Parallel, yet another multiverse / parallel universe concept coming to the big screen. They also mash up this concept with a plot about grief, another movie trend these days. It's set to open later in February in select theaters and on VOD to watch. The film follows the journey of Vanessa, a grief-stricken woman who mysteriously finds herself navigating between parallel spaces. This is actually a remake of the 2019 Chinese film Parallel Forest, about a woman who takes refuge at her family's lake house to grieve after suffering the loss of her child. She must reckon with the multiverse concept as a way to overcome her grief. It's the first feature from the Hodge Brothers Productions company. Parallel stars brothers Edwin Hodge and Aldis Hodge, along with the vey talented Danielle Deadwyler as Vanessa. It has the vibes of a "Black Mirror" story, which is usually a good thing. The film looks like it might actually be engaging to watch - check it out.

Parallel follows the story of Vanessa (Danielle Deadwyler) who takes refuge at her family's lake house to grieve after suffering the tragic loss of her child. Accompanied by her husband, Alex (Aldis Hodge), as well as his brother, Martel (Edwin Hodge), Vanessa attempts to regain a sense of normalcy after the tragedy. But soon after their arrival, she experiences an aberration when she is attacked by a parallel universe's version of herself. Faced with the reality that multiverses do exist, she must reconcile the fact that these parallel gates will either hold the key to releasing her grief or trapping her forever. Parallel is directed by Iranian producer / filmmaker Kourosh Ahari, director of the films The Yellow Wallpaper, Generations, and The Night previously, plus other short films. The screenplay is co-written by and it's produced by Aldis Hodge & Edwin Hodge and Jonathan Keasey. Also produced by Sean Lydiard, Jaylen Moore, Elliott Michael Smith, Ann Zhang. This hasn't premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Vertical will debut Ahari's Parallel in select US theaters + on VOD starting February 23rd, 2024 coming soon. Interested?
