Koh Kradat - Day Trip From Koh Mak To See The Deer & 1 Tree Island - Thailand 2024

Off the north east tip of Koh Mak is the small island of Koh Kradat. It is a very flat low lying island, thought to resemble a sheet of paper floating on the waves giving it the name, Koh meaning island and Kradat meaning paper.

The island itself is a working coconut plantation. There are 8 full time workers that stay on the island with others that come in during the day. There is no electricity on the island so it gets very hot for the workers with no a/c.

There is a thriving herd of deer, which is the main attraction on the island. In addition to the deer the island has some nice beaches that will be completely deserted. On the very north part of the island are 3 smaller islands that are accessible by walking down stone paths to each one. The smallest island is 1 tree island that has a single tree. This is a popular place for Thais to come to take pictures of this island.

The entrance fee is 150 Baht which is payable as part of the boat fee, itself normally around 400 Baht per person roundtrip.

To get to the island just show up at Laem Son Beach, in the very north east of the island and the operators of the only restaurant there will arrange the boat.

Once on the island, there is a motorcycle with side car that will take you to see both the deer and the general topography of the island. When the tide is low you can also walk across to the two tiny islands at its northern tip – Koh Nok Nok and Koh Nok Nai.

This day trip was a bit expensive but it was a really enjoyable time. The deer were docile and didn’t hassle you for free food. The interior of the island was not scenic but the beaches were very good. The short hike to the small islands was also very nice. It’s a good half day trip off Koh Mak to see something different.
