Trump praises January 6 ‘hostages’

Donald Trump has been out campaigning again, and that means the American media have been complaining about him campaigning again. On the agenda for his latest rally in Dayton, Ohio: the January 6 undocumented museum tour/insurrectionist coup (please delete as your political bias requires). As Trump invaded the stage, an announcer announced ‘Please rise for the horribly and unfairly treated January 6 hostages,’ which was followed by a rousing rendition of the US national anthem, performed by the ‘J6 Prison Choir’ featuring a pledge of allegiance by Trump. As Trump began his speech, he reiterated the point: ‘that’s what they are – hostages.’

One of Trump’s campaign pledges is to pardon all of those convicted for being involved in the January 6 violent attempt to overthrow the government/slight milling about (once again, delete as applicable), a pledge which has, as Trump pledges often do, divided opinion. Similarly divided is the opinion of his already infamous ‘bloodbath’ quote, which was either Trump promising to go on an ultra-violent killing spree, or Trump warning about the economic downturn in the automotive industry, depending on whether you heard the deceptively edited version of the quote or not.
