The Soil Food Web - The Potential of Bamboo in Regeneration Soil

🦠🍄 The Soil Food Web, there's Dr. Elaine Ingham on the slide there, you know, world premiere microbiologist. And by the way, anybody out there who's really interested in this stuff, you can go on soilfoodweb.com and you can see the map.

of all of the people that have been trained in microscope tech, like I have using this system. So we have a global network of soil, you know, citizen scientists, and we are trained in a standardized process of analyzing soil microbiology. And they're everywhere. You probably got people near you. So yeah.

Awesome! That's really interesting!

Yeah, so you can see on that slide, you got the plant there, the organic matter, that's really incredibly important in all of this organic matter content in the soil. We talked about the topsoil, that's what topsoil is. It's organic matter and it's microbes and roots. And then you get the fungi, the nematodes. Nematodes are microscopic earthworms. You know, a lot of emphasis has been on earthworms.

and how good they are for the soil. Yeah, the big ones, but nematodes, nematodes are like some of the most populous organisms on earth and they're microscopic. We hopefully will see some if we do a scan later. You got bacteria, you got protozoa. So protozoa, that's another phyla. And those are like amoeba, flagellates, ciliates. Then you have the arthropods, which are like little insects.

and then you got animals and birds. So it's like a food chain, but it's a food web because it's more, it's not linear.
