GOP Rep. Nancy Mace Scolds ABC's George Stephanopoulos For Rape-Shaming Her Over Trump Support

Things took a decidedly ugly turn on Sunday during a "This Week" segment when ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos tried his best to rape shame Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) in a heated exchange over her support for former President Donald Trump's 2024 presidential candidacy. The grounds for the attempted shaming stemmed from the E. Jean Carroll case against Trump, whom Carroll has accused of rape even though she can't recall the year the alleged crime happened and once bizarrely joked about how she'd spend the millions she won from the second defamation case. During the interview, Mace talked about the fact that she had been a victim of rape as a teenager and how she had carried shame with her for 30 years. She told Stephanopoulos she found it highly offensive and disgusting that he would try to use that against her in the context of her support for Donald Trump, who Stephanopoulos falsely declared had been "found liable for rape."

“As a rape victim… how can you endorse Trump?” he asked. "It was not a criminal court case, No. 1. No. 2, I live with shame. And you're asking me a question about my political choices trying to shame me as a rape victim," Mace responded. Stephanopoulos, who in the 1990s worked as a sexual harassment/rape apologist, senior advisor for then-President Bill Clinton, briefly defended Carroll after Mace criticized her for the joke she made to MSNBC host Rachel Maddow in late January about how they're about "gonna go shopping!" after the $83 million verdict. In response, Carroll thanked him on the Twitter machine while seemingly showing support for Mace: https://twitter.com/ejeancarroll/status/1766900577307345247?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1766900577307345247%7Ctwgr%5E24bdb6f4ad42313518b18657cab83fbf1954375d%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fredstate.com%2Fsister-toldjah%2F2024%2F03%2F11%2Fsit-down-tara-reade-goes-after-e-jean-carroll-in-wild-twist-after-macestephanopoulos-dust-up-n2171205

Because of that tweet, and because Carroll has said that she'd do whatever she could to get Joe Biden reelected, Biden accuser Tara Reade blasted back, asking Carroll how she could support Joe Biden when she (Carroll) had previously indicated to her in private messages that she believed her allegation of Biden sexually assaulting her when he was a Senator in 1993: “A reminder again E. Jean Carroll that you know I was raped by Biden when I was his staffer and silenced by the media and yet you publicly support my rapist! Sit down before you lecture other rape survivors. Hypocrisy surrounding you. George Stephanopoulos knows I exist as well and knows what Biden did. The morally bankrupt elite democrats know what Joe Biden is but still prop him up.” https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GIXQe4hW8AApZjC?format=jpg&name=large -- As of this writing, Carroll has not responded to Reade's tweet. Presumably, she's out doing some of that shopping, perhaps to buy a nice gift for George Stephanopoulos.
