Godzilla: Minus One just took home the Oscar for best VFX, beating out the other nominees with much higher budgets.

There has been a lot of talk about what Toho Studios was able to accomplish with Godzilla: Minus One considering they only had a budget of less than $15 million for a big scale monster movie. Director Takashi Yamazaki also worked as the film’s VFX supervisor, making him the first director and VFX supervisor to win an Oscar since Stanley Kubrick in 1968. This win showcases to the rest of Hollywood a big budget is not required to have great effects.
