Ramadan is a holy month in the Islamic calendar observed by Muslims around the world as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. During this month, adult and healthy Muslims are required to refrain from eating, drinking, smoking and sexual relations from dawn to sunset. The purpose of fasting is to draw closer to Allah (God) and to develop patience, humility, and spirituality.

Ramadan is the 9th month in the Islamic calendar, which is based on the lunar cycle, so its start time moves back about ten days each year according to the Gregorian calendar. During the month of Ramadan, Muslims also increase other religious activities such as reading the Koran (Islam's holy book), carrying out tarawih prayers (additional evening prayers), and giving zakat fitrah (charity).

Special moments during Ramadan include:

Sahur: The last meal before dawn, which helps Muslims prepare for the day of fasting.
Iftar: When breaking the fast after sunset, it usually begins with consuming dates and water, followed by a heavier meal.
Laylatul Qadar: The Night of "Glory" or "Destiny", believed to be the night when the first revelation of the Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. This night is considered a night that is better than a thousand months, and Muslims try to increase worship and prayer on this night.
Ramadan ends with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, a holiday that celebrates the end of the month of fasting, where Muslims gather to pray together in the morning and then celebrate with festivals, food and family gatherings. During Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, an atmosphere of togetherness, generosity and hospitality is felt in Muslim communities around the world.
