PLEASE BE ADVISED. THE ORIGINAL SOURCE VIDEO WHICH WAS ALSO THE BEST VIDEO QUALITY AVAILABLE WAS HEAVILY CONDENSED. THIS REQUIRED A STILL IMAGE OF WOODY, MICK, AND COACH FORD BETWEEN A LOT OF THE ACTION TO AVOID ELIMINATING THE FULL RADIO BROADCAST FROM THE TAR HEEL SPORTS NETWORK.

Following a disappointed 2001-2002 campaign, the Tar Heels were reloaded for 2002-2003 with sophomores Jawad Williams, Jackie Manuel, and Melvin Scott combined with new freshman additions Raymond Felton, Sean Maye, and Voldemort. The new look Heels showed promise but still took some lumps during the season.

As the final game arrived, Carolina was 15-14 and needed to beat rival dook at home to secure a winning season in Matt Doherty's third season as the Tar Heel skipper. As with any Carolina/dook game, it would be a fight but seriously this one was. Tensions rose, blood was shed, and in the end, the Heels prevailed in a Tobacco Road classic.

Synced with the TV broadcast on the call for this game was the legendary Voice of the Tar Heels Woody Durham alongside trusty sidekick Mick Mixon and [at the time] all-time leading scorer for North Carolina Phil Ford. it was after Coach Bill Guthridge retired and Coach Doherty arrived with his own staff, that Phil Ford left the sideline as an assistant coach and joined the Tar Heel Sports Network as color commentator joining Woody and Mick.

Carolina Blue on Screen:

If you notice different blues from our graphics versus the broadcaster's graphics on the screen note this. North Carolina athletics, my love, has had color durability and consistency issues from a marketing perspective for years. We use Nike’s version of Carolina Blue, hex code 85ADEA for all UNC video content on this channel because it matches the uniforms, shoes, court, etc. You will notice ESPN and indeed other media outlets use the branding standard hex code 7BAFD4 the Tar Heels publish but it does not match virtually anything other than Carolin's marketing guide and the basket supports in the Smith Center. The discrepancies you see with the content on this channel are not my own but North Carolina’s inability to commit to one blue. We will remain consistent with the 85ADEA color for matching purposes.
