New York City deploys national guard to subway to fight crime

Crime in New York City is at its worst since the dark days of the 1980s, and that’s true of underneath the Big Apple as well. However, a solution is at hand: more of New York’s finest. Beleaguered New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a series of new measures to deal with New York’s new crime problem, including deploying 1,000 state police and national guard members, and the reintroduction of random bag checks. This is in addition to Mayor Eric Adams ‘ordering’ 1,000 new police officers last month, although it’s unclear where these new officers are going to come from.

New York City has seen a huge increase in crime in recent years, although it does appear that the problem is now being taken seriously by officials. Major crimes – which include robbery, assault and homicide – were up 45% year-on-year in January, and while February saw some respite, March appears to be continuing the trend. Well, perhaps, not anymore, although isn’t funding the police still considered racist these days?
