It’s official! The firefly - or lightning bug - is now Indiana’s state insect

It’s been debated for years, but after a vote Tuesday afternoon the firefly will become the official state insect of Indiana. The effort was led by students at Cumberland Elementary School in West Lafayette who sent letters to the governor pushing to make the firefly - or lightning bug - the official state insect. The bill was approved by the House on Tuesday and is now on its way to Governor Eric Holcomb's desk for his signature.  Which means the Says Firefly will become Indiana's state bug.
