Amber Duke, Washington Editor of The Spectator, says mass layoffs in corporate media are happening due to competition, a loss of trust with readers, and left-wing, social justice news beats. “They’ve made-up these new beats where they can basically justify paying an activist straight out of college to advance left-wing narratives and it’s not a real journalistic position,” Duke explains. “So a lot of people that are getting laid off are the people on those specific beats.”
