Growing Rare Cold Hardy Citrus in North Carolina with Tough Citrus

Took the mobile homestead down to the @toughcitrus Cold Hardy Citrus Grove at the North Carolina property. This trip was to check in on how many varieties survived through the first part of the winter, maintenance the around the fields, #plants new varieties, paint/insulate the the #tinyhome and #install some lighting.

Aaron and I have learned a lot over the years of taking a chunk of land and getting it set up for #foodForest production.

We got down to 17 degrees F and most seemed to be holding on. Even the trees out in the field. Even though they were buried by the all the grass that took off we managed to clean it all up while allowing a little added protection to get through the last of the Southern winters. Got to add a mix of plant nutrients to let that soak in and give the trees a bit of kick start especially when it starts to warm up.

In this video: I tend to go straight into work instead of dealing with filming because we were on limited time with a decent chore list. I apologize for the rush hour traffic in the background but the grove is located in the best spot for a farm stand and I realize I will have to work on getting a microphone set up. Overall, the goal was to work and get the plants happy.

It was a great weekend reconnecting and seeing how well these cold hardy varieties are holding up with little maintenance.
