On December 23, 2023, OKCPD Lt. John Townsend was driving in the 1100 block of SW 26th St. when he saw a man on foot, firing a rifle into a residence. Lt. Townsend stopped his police car and confronted the suspect holding the rifle. It was during this armed confrontation that Lt. Townsend discharged his weapon at the suspect later identified as Vandell Stubbs, wounding him. Mr. Stubbs, along with a second suspect, Quintel Price, fled the scene on foot.
Mr. Price was taken into custody a short time later by a police K9. Hours later, Mr. Stubbs was arrested near the scene. Stubbs was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and released from the hospital. Both were booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on complaints related to the shooting.
Lt. Townsend has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. There were no other injuries reported.
