"Preventing Cancer Relapse: Tata Institute's Innovation Offers New Hope"

The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in India has created a new tablet that could help prevent cancer from coming back. This tablet, which will cost around Rs100 ($1.2), combines resveratrol and copper and has been in development for more than ten years at the Tata Memorial Centre.
The tablet works by producing oxygen radicals in the stomach when ingested. These radicals are then absorbed into the bloodstream where they target and destroy cancer cell remnants, which can lead to the formation of new tumors.
Apart from preventing cancer recurrence, the tablet also reduces the toxicity associated with chemotherapy and diminishes overall side effects of cancer treatment by approximately 50%. It has shown a 30% effectiveness in preventing cancer.
The potential of this tablet extends to the treatment of various cancers, including pancreatic, oral, and lung cancers.
The tablet is currently awaiting approval from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and is expected to be available for cancer patients from June/July 2024.
