Italian premier Giorgia Meloni was in Kiev this week to offer a little encouragement to dejected Ukrainians: “This land is a piece of our home, and we will do our bit to defend it.” It would appear “our bit” only meant telling America to cough up — as three days later, the speaker of Italy’s House of Representatives co-signed a disgraceful letter to Speaker Mike Johnson pressuring him into passing the $60bn for Kiev. Incredibly, the next day, Italy’s defence minister admitted in Parliament that defence spending has fallen from 1.59% of GDP in 2020 to 1.46% in 2023 — and “will probably fall” again this year!
Your NATO “allies”. You couldn’t make it up.
