After at least 104 people were killed and about 760 others were wounded in Gaza City in a disastrous attempt to deliver humanitarian aid, different narratives have emerged over the deadly incident. Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing ‘medical sources,’ says that ‘occupation forces opened heavy machine-gun fire towards thousands of citizens… who were waiting for the arrival of trucks loaded with humanitarian aid.’ The incident was strongly condemned by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who called it an ‘ugly massacre.’

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), however, has denied allegations that its troops indiscriminately opened fire on the crowd, and released aerial footage of the incident in order to counter Palestinian claims. ‘This morning humanitarian aid trucks entered northern Gaza, residents surrounded the trucks and looted the supplies being delivered. As a result of the pushing, trampling and being run over by the trucks, dozens of Gazans were killed and injured,’ the IDF shared on X.
