The Ohio River and the Licking River caused severe flooding in the Tri-State in 1997. In Kentucky, the towns of Falmouth and Butler were nearly submerged. Aurora, Ind., was widely flooded. In Downtown, water reached Third Street, encroached Riverfront Stadium on three sides and completely covered Bicentennial Commons. The river crested downtown at 64.48 feet on Wednesday, March 5 - the highest since 1964 and ninth highest in history.
