The Pronghorn Antelope, often simply referred to as pronghorn, is a remarkable mammal native to the grasslands and deserts of North America. Characterized by its unique appearance and remarkable speed, the pronghorn is the fastest land mammal in the Western Hemisphere, capable of reaching speeds up to 55 miles per hour (88 kilometers per hour) and sustaining them over long distances.

Physically, the pronghorn is easily distinguished by its slender build, reddish-brown fur, white belly, and distinctive white patches on its neck and rump. One of its most striking features is its horns, which are branched and shed annually like those of deer. These horns, unlike true horns, have a bony core with a keratin sheath and are found in both males and females.

Pronghorn are primarily herbivorous, feeding on a variety of vegetation including grasses, shrubs, and forbs. They have excellent vision, a crucial adaptation for detecting predators in their open habitats.
