Emergency responders in Washington, D.C., including fire officials and police, rushed to the Israeli Embassy on Sunday afternoon following an incident where an active-duty Air Force member set himself on fire.

DC Fire and EMS received a call just before 1 p.m. reporting a person on fire outside the Israeli Embassy, and D.C. police responded to the 3500 block of International Drive NW around the same time to assist the U.S. Secret Service.

Upon arrival, officials found that the fire had been extinguished by members of the U.S. Secret Service.

The Secret Service stated that its uniformed division had responded to a person facing a potential medical or mental health emergency.

The airman was subsequently transported by DC Fire and EMS to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition, Fox News reported.
