Paul Murphy - mini-set of back-catalogue songs

I hit the nostalgia trail this week. I had an idea to go through some of the, what is known these days as 'deep cuts', from my catalogue. Having written some 1300 sings, the well is pretty deep, and so are some of the cuts still. This all came about because I wanted to sing 'The Memory Of The Moment' for my daughter, and it was the only darn lyric not in the pile. What I can recall of it opens this very loose set, which, before you start niggling at me about the technical mis-aspects and the muted strings, a] it was basically 62 year old me trying to remember what 26 year old me had written and b], I am in the end-stage of F-MND, I'd like to see you do better on YOUR death-carpet.

The first 4 songs here date from the late 80s and early 90s - 'Memory' might be around '96, until I dig the album out and check I'm not sure. It was the only number here I ever played live, which might explain the absence of the lyric sheet, but probably no more than 2 or 3 times. If fate has mercy [hah], I'll come back to it. The last song is my beautiful daughter's wonderful poem, 'Where Does The Sun Go To At Night?', which dates from late 2023, and this is a unique arrangement of it, taking the alternate melody line and singing it at 45 degrees to the tempo.

This became the start of something of a fun project, as I type, 2 days on, I now have 20 of my 'base of the Sphinx' songs excavated, including another mini-set, of side 1 of the "Crystal Heart" album played in track order. I guess at the end of your trail, all your old songs flash before you.

Light and peace,
Me
