Delaware Copper Mine Tour - Mohawk, Keweenaw Peninsula, MI

23

Located 12 miles south of Copper Harbor Michigan, the Delaware Copper Mine has been offering tours since 1977.

Tom and Lani Poynter run the Keweenaw’s oldest attraction. If you visit you just may get to see their pet skunk snickers. Tours begin in June and end in late September, and the cave is pet friendly.

We discuss the history of the mining operation. We walk through the mine, talk about points of interest and learn some mining terms.

Back on the surface we talk about the gift shop, the prehistoric mining site, the ruins of the original buildings and the mine dump.
