"Ad Astra" Official Lyric Video

Taken from the Latin phrase "ad astra per aspera (through hardships to the stars)", "Ad Astra" is War On Gravity's first original single. The song also serves as the first look at our upcoming debut album, Element Zero. The album will feature songs heavily inspired by the storyline of the Mass Effect video games, with the main lyrical ideas applying the themes of the games to everyday life.
"Ad Astra" is about overcoming the fear that comes with being bombarded by important life decisions and accepting the weight of responsibility that comes with maturity. The song encourages listeners to try new experiences and pursue forward momentum regardless of certainty. In many ways, the song was written as a "letter-to-self" for us. Making "screamo" music in our late 20s--especially with Jordan having so many mouths to feed and Jon starting his own family--felt a bit juvenile at times.
But we have this fire in us that we have to let out, and this song felt like the perfect lead single to us. We sincerely hope you enjoy it!
For Mass Effect fans, you may notice some subtle nods to Commander Shepherd's speeches from ME2 in the lyrics, and a much less subtle nod to the games' soundtrack. And if you like the band ERRA, this is our "ERRA" song! Please don't judge it against their work, they are incredible!
