Do Smaller Law Agencies Keep Their Communities Safe? Det Sean Gorman Pt 3

How critical is on-the-job experience? What happens to a department or agency when officers are promoted too fast, or given responsibilities with no one to train them and "show them the ropes"? Mistakes happen. And not surprisingly, especially in the context of law enforcement, the consequences can be dire. That is why movements like the "defund the police" movement are so dangerous!

Why do so many people lose their minds and act so irrationally when something changes, even if it's relatively minor? Two years ago someone started the rumor that toilet paper might become scarce. Remember that? LOTS of people lost their minds!! Every Christmas season, especially on "Black Friday", we hear of people getting into fistfights over a TV or a cabbage patch doll. And the list goes on and on.

Lincoln, Rhode Island is a smaller community of about 23,000 residents. But being in the East, and not far from Providence, Boston, and other large cities it has its share of spillover.

Plus it has one of the largest casinos in the area so there is plenty of people who are just "passing through"!

Detective Sean Gorman is a 19-year veteran of the police force, has experience investigating crimes from burglary to murder, is certified in crime scene investigation, and is also well-versed in DNA, fingerprinting, and even prosecutions. He even finds time to be an adjunct professor!

Why does he do all of that? Because he lives and serves in a small community, and that's just what they do. When you have limited resources, and limited personnel and yet have to deal with "big city crime", you put on whatever hat you need at the moment and just get it done.

Frankly, law enforcement officers like Detective Gorman are not that different than small business owners in anywhere America, they just get it done!

All Things Crime is a new, comprehensive video series that will explore every aspect of crime and the ensuing investigation, one video interview at a time. The host, Jared Bradley, is the President of M-Vac Systems, which is a wet-vacuum-based forensic DNA collection system and has experience traveling the world training all levels of law enforcement and crime lab DNA analysts in using the M-Vac to help solve the crime. Along the way he has met people from all walks of life and experience in investigating crimes, so is putting that knowledge to use in another way by sharing it in these videos.
