Episode 1886: St Amata of Assisi

Saint Amata of Assisi, also known as Saint Ame or Saint Amata, was an early Christian saint and a contemporary of Saint Clare of Assisi and Saint Francis of Assisi. She was born around 1207 in Assisi, Italy, to a noble family. Amata was drawn to the religious life from an early age and desired to dedicate her life to serving God.

Amata was acquainted with Saint Clare of Assisi since childhood, and she became a follower of Clare's when Clare decided to establish the Order of Poor Ladies, later known as the Poor Clares. Amata joined Clare and other devout women in embracing a life of poverty, prayer, and service to God.

Like Clare, Amata was inspired by the teachings and example of Saint Francis of Assisi. She embraced Francis' dedication to living a life of simplicity and humility, devoting herself to prayer, penance, and caring for the poor.

Amata's commitment to her faith and her desire to serve God wholeheartedly earned her a reputation for holiness among her peers. She lived a life of devout piety and self-sacrifice, embodying the ideals of the Franciscan spirituality.

Saint Amata of Assisi died around the year 1250, leaving behind a legacy of faith, humility, and devotion to God. Her feast day is celebrated on February 20th.
