Crowds gathered outside the London High Court in support of Julian Assange on Tuesday, as the WikiLeaks founder begins what could be his final attempt to fight extradition to the US. Assange’s lawyers are set to ask the court for a new appeal hearing, after a decade of fighting extradition to the US on ‘espionage’ charges, which his supporters say are politically motivated.

Stella Assange spoke outside the court, thanking her husband's supporters and urging them to keep turning up for him. ‘We have two big days ahead. We don’t know what to expect, but you’re here because the world is watching,’ said Mrs Assange. ‘They have to know they cannot get away with this. Julian needs his freedom and we all need the truth.’

Following the hearing, the protesters plan to march to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Downing Street office.
