83-year-old Donald "Doc" Bennett was arrested for a bank robbery in Chicago on Valentine's Day. This has to be some sort of record. This is just where the story starts. Bennett was known as the “leaping bandit” by the FBI for a string of bank robberies in the 1980s that left him in prison for 31 years. “Leaping bandit” was the name given to him because of how he would jump over counters during his robberies.

Bennett was let out of prison early in 2020 (he had a 50-year-sentence) and appeared to start right where he left off. Bennett was arrested with 55-year-old Edward Binert who he met in prison in 2006. The FBI believes Bennett was involved in 7 bank robberies since June 27. They believe he stole $11,400 from a Chase bank on June 27, $30,886 from a different Chase bank on August 25, and $7,000 from another Chase bank on Valentine’s Day.
