Paul Murphy - 'Resonances' . Session 3 , Take 3

This was the third take of 'Resonances' on the third day since writing it, and this is the final acoustic take, before I switched to electric guitar for two 'blasters'. This is one of those songs that is comfortable in any musical environment - slow and reflective, fast and angry. Well, it's a song about life, and life is that way as well I guess.

On the subject of 'Resonances', it only occurred to me, as I was reviewing the footage to see which takes to upload, that the first song I ever wrote, 43 years ago now ['I Don't Think I'm Going To Smile Ever Again'] was in E-minor with an A-minor progression - and here I am, all these decades later, going out with my last-ever song almost the same, albeit with a brief sojurn to D. The circle is complete.

Light and peace,
Me

'Resonances'

I'm searching for answers
In an unwritten book
You tell me you're waiting
But not where to look
I only know strangers
Or, so it seems
Implicating my thoughts
And invading my dreams

That cross you're wearing
Won't bring absolution
Your mother's past caring
If she gets retribution
I went for your heart
You went for my throat
Here alone in the dark
I can still hear you gloat

Your lips burn like fire
Your caress cuts so deep
You opened up your memories
Sneering "Read 'em and weep"
One kiss in the garden
And the sentries arrived
The judge said I'd be pardoned
If I walked out alive

You showed me the banquet
But wouldn't let me eat
You said "You get what you paid for"
"Now my revenge is complete"
Each door you open
Leaves someone crying out, "Mercy!"
I could be ten years dead
You'd still stand there and curse me

Your setting-sun stare
Froze my soul to the core
You whispered "See you in Hell"
I said "Just like before"
Your words are weapons
Cold and serrated
Someone carve on my tombstone
'If Only I'd Waited'

The corridor is endless
The hourglass is low
Everyone dies friendless
One day, you'll know
It's time to strike camp
Meet me at the black river
The ferryman's in attendence
Wondering who he has to deliver
