Russian army in turmoil as violence within its ranks escalates

The number of violent conflicts between Russian forces serving in Ukraine is rising as commanders are not satisfied with their recruits. They often go as far as murder
The Center for National Resistance of Ukraine reports that within the Western Military District of the Russian Armed Forces, “there is a tendency for unit commanders to commit violence against their subordinate personnel”.
For example, in the Kursk region, numerous verdicts of garrison military courts on mass murders of servicemen have been recorded. When unit commanders shot their subordinates while on duty.
Such cases occurred due to “mutual hostility” or because the servicemen were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“As a last incident, in early February this year, the Kursk Garrison Military Court sentenced a senior warrant officer who, under heavy alcohol intoxication, shot a line of subordinates to 14 years in prison,” the Center for National Resistance writes.
Every six months, approximately 130,000 Russian conscripts are called up for their year of service, where most of them face sadistic hazing. In Russian, it’s called dedovshchina, a brutal internal army regime that began in Soviet times but is thoroughly embedded in modern military culture. Western militaries have worked hard to reduce bullying and hazing in the ranks with some, but not complete, success. But in Russia’s army, dedovshchina is a unique cultural staple and a formative part of the military identity. It’s a process that leaves Russian soldiers brutalized and traumatized; it in turn teaches them to inflict pain on others.
