Indian athletes made a remarkable start at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 in Tehran, with Harmilan Bains and Jyothi Yarraji clinching gold medals in their respective events.
Harmilan Bains secured India's first gold medal in the women's 1500m race, finishing with a time of 4:29.25.
This victory marked a significant achievement for Bains, who had previously won two silver medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
On the other hand, Jyothi Yarraji set a new national record in the women's 60m hurdles, clocking a personal best of 8.12 seconds.
Yarraji's performance in the hurdles was particularly notable as she broke her own national record of 8.13 seconds, which she had set in the previous edition of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Astana.
