in this video we will discuss that what causes twist in female ovaries?
Ovaries play a vital role in the female reproductive system. However, in ovarian torsion, the ovaries can become twisted around their supporting ligaments, causing a blockage in blood flow and resulting in painful swelling.
The risk of ovarian torsion is higher in females with unstable ovaries, which can be caused by two main factors: neoplasm or cyst formation.
Neoplasm refers to a benign cancer where ovarian tissues start to divide abnormally, forming a tissue mass known as neoplasm. On the other hand, if an egg cannot be released from a normal follicle or if the follicle does not disappear after ovulation, it can become filled with fluid and enlarge, forming a sac-like structure called a cyst.
Symptoms of ovarian torsion include intense pain in the lower abdomen and inflammation in the peritoneum membrane due to the blocked blood supply and dying ovarian tissues. To diagnose ovarian torsion, an ultrasound is commonly performed.
Surgery is the preferred treatment for ovarian torsion. During the procedure, the twisted ovary is untwisted, and if the ovarian tissues have died, they may need to be removed, and in some cases, the fallopian tubes as well.
