Texas governor announces plans to build 80-acre base in Eagle Pass for 1,800 National Guard troops

On Friday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott revealed intentions to construct an 80-acre facility to accommodate up to 1,800 Texas National Guard members near Eagle Pass.

This border city has become a focal point in the ongoing dispute between the state and the Biden administration regarding federal immigration policy.

“Before now, the Texas National Guard had been scattered across this entire region in cramped quarters, away from fellow soldiers and sometimes traveling long distances to do their job,” Abbott said during a news conference, CNN reported.
