The White House is closely monitoring developments that could redefine national security as we know it. At the heart of this concern is Russia's advancements in anti-satellite capabilities. The White House publicly confirmed on Thursday that Russia has obtained a “troubling” emerging anti-satellite weapon but cautioned there’s little threat to Americans’ personal safety.

The system is still in development, said John Kirby, a spokesman for the National Security Council. “There is no immediate threat to anyone’s safety,” he told reporters Thursday. “It is not an active capability and it has not yet been deployed.” U.S. officials are analyzing the information they have on the emerging technology and have consulted with allies and partners on the matter.
