Laura Dassow Walls is an American professor of English literature and the William P. and Hazel B. White Professor of English at the University of Notre Dame. She specializes in American Transcendentalism, literature and science, and environmental literature and ecocriticism. Her research focuses on the intersections of literature and science in the works of authors such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Alexander von Humboldt. Walls has received numerous awards for her work, including the 2018 Los Angeles Times Book Award for Biography for her book "Henry David Thoreau: A Life." She is also the author of "The Passage to Cosmos: Alexander von Humboldt and the Shaping of America" and has been recognized for her contributions to the field of literature and science
