The Texas black bear (Ursus americanus luteolus) is a subspecies of the American black bear found in parts of Texas. Historically, they were widespread across Texas, but due to habitat loss and overhunting, their population declined dramatically. By the mid-20th century, Texas black bears were considered extirpated from the state.
