The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said it started in Herrin when officers there tried to pull over a vehicle for traffic violations in the early afternoon hours.

The sheriff’s office said in a release, the reported stolen vehicle fled, "leading law enforcement westbound on Herrin Road, north on Cambria Road, and westbound on Illinois Route 13.”

When the vehicle was going towards Spillway Road, law enforcement tried a rolling road block, which slowed the suspect to a near stop, the sheriff’s office detailed. Then, the suspect reportedly went off the road, traveled through the median, and went southbound onto Spillway Road.

Deputies then conducted a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver which made the vehicle spin around and then law enforcement blocked the vehicle in.

The sheriff’s office said the driver suspect was identified as Jake A. Gilmore, of Mt. Vernon. Two other passengers were removed from the vehicle as well and were detained.

Gilmore was charged with Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Reckless Driving and Driving While License Revoked.

Gilmore was taken to the Williamson County Jail.

This remains an ongoing investigation.

Sheriff Jeff Diederich stated, "the public should know that Herrin Police located a stolen vehicle so quickly that the victim was still in the process of reporting the theft."
