BLIND TO BETRAYAL: Why We Fool Ourselves We Aren’t Being Fooled by Dr. Jennifer Freyd

I highly recommend the book 'Blind to Betrayal: Why We Fool Ourselves we aren't Being Fooled' by the brilliant psychologist Dr. Jennifer Freyd. In this book, Dr. Freyd says that people’s frequent unwillingness to see that they are being betrayed is due to psychological defences, like dissociation, for example, that influence an individual's ability to recognize or process information that might be obvious to an outside observer. It’s a survival mechanism in the brain to help people cope with and survive traumatic experiences.

Based on the research I’ve been doing, I believe that we have all been betrayed on an institutional level by ill-intentioned factions of our governments and organisations who have knowingly committed crimes against humanity. We are all experiencing betrayal trauma on some level.
